Teach Language Arts through Daring Rescues
Brienna Rossiter, Focus Readers Editor
New this fall, the Rescues in Focus series highlights true stories of amazing rescues and the tools workers use to carry them out. Each book’s easy-to-read text is designed to hold young readers’ interest, and our online resources provide a great way to channel this interest into building literacy skills.
Every book comes with a printable activity that students can use at home or at school. For Storm Rescues, we’ve created a worksheet that defines key terms from the book and asks students to fill in the missing vocabulary words. The Fire Rescues activity helps students demonstrate reading comprehension by placing the steps of a rescue in chronological order. For Mountain Rescues, students can complete a short story by choosing terms from a word bank. Each activity comes with an answer key to make grading simple.
